Symbols

Logos, symbols, emblems, and so on, are all forms of highly condensed identifiers and are abstract representation of a particular idea or identity.

One of the most popular examples of this would be the famous "All Seeing Eye" that is worn as a coat-of-arms by enormous corporations such as CBS, AOL, and Intel. These symbolic forms are widely recognized through-out the world and speak to the sub-conscious, while consciously you might be asleep!

Logotypes are corporate identifications based on a special typographical word treatment. Some identifiers are hybrid, or combinations of symbol and logotype.

In order to create these identifiers, the designer must have a clear vision of the corporation or idea to be represented and of the audience to which the message is directed.
